What makes people special? We have seen and heard so many stories of people helping other people during and after the earthquake. These people are often just ordinary people, but their actions make them special. We want you to find out what makes people special and to tell us about it.
Here are some things that you can do to find out more about the people who have helped you.
1. Do you have a digital camera? Take a photo of someone who helped you during the earthquake. Now you can put your photos into comic life and use the speech bubbles and text boxes to write words or sentences about what makes them so special. If you do not have this software you can go to this site and download a free trial version of Comic Life for your Mac or PC Computer.
2. Ask lots of other people for words that they think describe heroes.
You could use an Easi-speak microphone if your school has one, a digital camera on video or email to collect the words.
Type them up or copy and paste them from the emails into a list. If several people use the same words type them all up, and then copy and paste them into a Wordle frame at http://wordle.net When you create your Wordle the words that were used a lot will be bigger than those that were only used a little. In this way you will get a picture graph of the words. I wonder what word will be used the most?
You can take a screenshot of your Wordle and put it into the display page for your age group.
To take a screenshot:For Mac computers hold down the Shift and Command keys and press 4. This will make a + on your mouse pointer. Go to the top left of your Wordle, hold down the left mouse button and drag over the Wordle then release the mouse button. You will hear a click and a screenshot will appear on your desktop. For PCs you can download a free programme to do this. Check out one of these choices: Jing http://www.techsmith.com/jing/ or Screen Hunter http://wisdom-soft.com/products/screenhunter_free.htm
